diy: after sun spray

after sun spray is NOT just for after sun!!!

You’re going to NEED this.

Because not only is summer officially here, but we have been under wraps for MONTHS. So I’m guessing that the more than usual lack of Vitamin D is going to mean even more than usual sun burnt skin. Personally, I feel like a lab rat every time I go outside.

Same?

I’ve gotcha.

I’ve actually been using this spray in the kitchen for months now because I’m also prone to the OTHER kind of burn – that is, oven burn.

I’m impatient and lazy, and as such tend to stick my hands in the oven without always using the proper protection. And this spray WORKS, thanks to aloe vera gel and a bunch of lovely oils. So it cools, soothes AND heals, and will feel so so good on that “oops didn’t reapply” tender skin.

Pro-tip: make a few extra bottles to keep by the stove and grill.

After Sun Spray

2-ounce glass spray bottle
1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
1 teaspoon witch hazel
6 drops Peppermint essential oil*
6 drops Copaiba essential oil*
6 drops Lavender essential oil*
distilled water

Mix the aloe vera gel and witch hazel in a small dish (this will facilitate getting the gel into the bottle; if it’s still too thick add a little of the distilled water).

Pour the gel/witch hazel mixture into your bottle and add the essential oils. Swirl to combine and fill the rest with the distilled water. Shake before each use.

*I’ve gotten several e-mails and messages asking why I choose the particular oils I use in my DIYs. So I thought I’d explain at the bottom of each “recipe” what the purpose is of each oil, for those of you who like the details!

Peppermint: is cooling and refreshing

Copaiba: has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antimicrobial properties as well as a cooling effect

Lavender: helps soothe minor skin irritations and is soothing to skin after a day in the sun
