favor-“ette”: the perfect pair of shorts

At some point early on in my 40’s, I just stopped wearing shorts. I found them to be too casual, not very flattering, and for some reason, “not befitting” a woman of a certain age.

And then the lovely gals at Tumbleweed sent me a version of these, to wear under a few summer dresses I had ordered:

They were perfect under my wrap dresses – allowing me to move around freely with Noah, while still feeling feminine and a little bit dressed up.

And I soon found myself wearing them with other items in my wardrobe. And I re-discovered my love of shorts.

The trick is finding the right length AND cut. I prefer an inseam of about 11-13″ (which hits just at my knees), with a very straight and slim profile. A neutral color (such as khaki or black) or a dark rinse denim will be most versatile.

How to wear them? Here are some of my favorite outfit ideas:

chambray shirt calf belt oxfords

blazer tee shirt sandals

peasant blouse panama hat clogs

I could keep going! Best of all, a dark color, in a nice mid-heavy weight fabric could see you right through fall – making these a true “multi-tasker“.

So ladies, let’s discuss – aside from exercising, do you love shorts? How do you style them?
