Between the kids, my business and the general craziness that life brings, I have very little time to think about what I’m going to wear in the morning. And as my day starts before dawn and ends many hours later, chances are that I will find myself in vastly different situations throughout.

So it’s important for me to put on something in the morning that will see me through whatever the day may bring, since I definitely don’t have time (or a personal stylist) for multiple outfit changes. I also like to look as put together as possible (my business is local and I never know who I’m going to run into). Oh, and be comfortable too.

It’s finally feeling like fall here in New York, and for me that means the sweaterdress.

A sweaterdress (or 2) is a staple in my wardrobe. It can be dressed up or down, is easily accessorized and is incredibly comfortable. I got mine here but they are sold almost everywhere. Look for a neutral color, a weight that’s substantial but not too bulky, and a length that is long enough for you to wear as a dress (for me that means just barely above the knee).

Here are just a few looks:

madewell sweater dress

casual – with a collared blouse, jeans, scarf and sneakers

madewell sweater dress

arm – with a tee and leggings underneath, boots, gloves and hat

madewell sweater dress

dressy – with heels

fun – with skinny jeans and sparkly flats

Do you have a staple in your wardrobe that you reach for time and time again? Please share!

Happy Friday!

Me too! Mine from last year are wearing out and I’m desperately looking for a new crop. But yours won’t do. I’m definitely looking for the ‘big bottom’ version, not the slimming shift. But I’ve got my boots for the season (blue suede) so I’m all set from the knee down.
