jarcuterie is the “new” charcuterie and I am HERE for it!
THRILLED to once again be part of Annie, Cindy and Mary Ann’s monthly round up series – this time all about picnics!
I was double thrilled TBH, because I had been waiting for just the right time to share my latest obsession – jarcuterie – with you all!
So what is jarcuterie, you ask?
It’s charcuterie in a jar. Basically, all the components of a charcuterie or cheese board, but in individual servings. Which is perfect for a picnic and, in my humble opinion, now the ONLY way I will consume a cheese board – and I think once you make your own jarcuterie you will totally agree.
I mean…………….
So how do you make jarcuterie, you ask?
It couldn’t be easier. Simply assemble all the components you love to serve/eat when preparing a cheese board, with just a few extra “accessories”. Here’s a list to get you started (I put what I used in parentheses):
Nuts (candied pecans; those these spiced walnuts would be good too!)
Dried fruit (apricots; or maybe these candied orange slices?)
2 kinds of cheese (Manchego and mini Brie rounds)
3 kinds of meat (prosciutto, salami and capocollo)
fresh fruit (raspberries and blackberries)
2 kinds of crackers (cheese straws and raisin-rosemary crackers)
something sweet (dark chocolate bars)
herb sprig (oregano)
Here’s how to assemble:
Place the pecans and apricots in the bottom of the jars – they “anchor” the rest of the items and are a sweet nibble to finish.
Slice the Manchego into triangular slices (you’ll want 2 – 3 per jar); thread the Brie onto a pick.
Thread 2 – 3 pieces of each meat onto a pick. For the rounds, fold in half and then half again. For the prosciutto, fold the slices “accordion” style.
Thread the fresh fruit onto a pick.
Place a cheese straw, chocolate bar and the Brie/meat/fruit picks into the jar. Tuck the Manchego slices, crackers and herb sprig into any available gaps.
Obviously the sky’s the limit in terms of what you use – these are just suggestions!
The jars keep well for several hours, so you can make them in the morning and know that they’ll hold up till you’re ready to serve. I nestled them in a cloth-lined cake pan; you could do the same in a large plastic bin set in a cooler if you’re taking these babies on the road!

xo
Thank you SO much Annie – you inspire me every single day! xoxoxo
Thank you so much! Made it for the appetizer for my mother’s dinner party. Great solution for a COVID friendly starter.
Oh yay! SO good, right? Thank you for sharing!!! 🙂
Sheri I absolutely love this idea! Our son plays college football and the families all make fun foods to share at the tailgates. A small version of these “jarcuteries” would be so perfect! This would be fantastic to elevate a day at the beach too. Pinning to save all your yummy food ideas and presentation! Thank you!
Thank you so much Lisa! I feel just the same about your beautiful post and look forward to following you! 🙂
Oh my!! You completely put the cute in jarcuteries! These are adorable and look so delicious. What a great idea. I can’t wait to try this.
Ha! Thank you so much! Let me know what you put in yours! 🙂
Sheri this is the cutest ‘jarcuterie’ idea I have seen yet! These are a thing of beauty and look delicious too. Who would not want to be given one of these at a gathering?? I absolutely love this and will try for any upcoming gatherings- as I think people are still a little shy of communal cheese plates and such in the post Covid era. Fun doing this with you all. You always have the most amazing things here Sherri. x Kim
Thank you so much Kim! And it’s so easy too! 🙂

Thank you Contessa! You are most kind!
Brilliant! I’ve always been a fan on individual appetizers. Communal dips always had me a little on edge 🙂 Even more so now! The ideas are endless with the jars. Imagine some spinach dip at the bottom with breadsticks arranged all around. Thank you for your recipes and ideas.
Yesss! I’ve seen dessert jars too that look adorable. Thank YOU so much! 🙂
Oh my gosh! These are so adorable and they look delicious too! I want one of these this weekend and a Muffalata sandwich too! 🙂
