The best homemade bbq sauce couldn’t be easier – or more delicious!

summer = barbecue!
While we’re lucky to have access to our grill right outside our door, it gets way more use during the warmer weather. Warm temps just lend themselves to the kind of dining that begs for grilled meats, fish and vegetables, not to mention how easy this kind of cooking tends to be!
Yo Mama’s for the win!
I’m thrilled to be partnering once more with Yo Mama’s – you may recall those delicious cauliflower bowls I made a while back!
Today I’m using Yo Mama’s Ketchup to make the homemade bbq sauce that I’ve been making forever. I’m a big big fan of all of Yo Mama’s products, and their ketchup is one of my favorites. Handcrafted with tomatoes, spices and monk fruit, it is free from added sugars, high-fructose corn syrup, gums, fillers or preservatives. And it is DELICIOUS on its own as well as being the star in my barbecue sauce!

bbq sauce is ridiculously easy to make!
If you’ve previously grabbed a bottle of barbecue sauce from the grocery store, I highly recommend you trying this recipe to see how simple it is to make your own at home. This easy recipe requires just a few pantry staples and a saucepan. Basically, if you can boil water you can make the best bbq sauce!
what ingredients do you need?
Here’s the handful of ingredients you’ll need for this easy bbq sauce:
- Yo Mama’s ketchup (classic, spicy or a mix)
- 1 teaspoon of hot sauce
- apple cider vinegar
- Dijon mustard
- garlic
- light or dark brown sugar
- molasses
how do you make it?
To make your own bbq sauce, simply combine all of the ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Lower to a medium-low heat and simmer till reduced by about one third. Let cool to room temperature, transfer to a mason jar or airtight container and refrigerate till ready to use!

how do you use this homemade sauce?
This sauce is hands down own of my personal favorites. It is the perfect balance of spiciness with just the right amount of sweetness, and is the perfect sauce to use on just about anything you like! I’m showing it here on some juicy pork ribs, but the sky’s the limit! Make a bbq chicken pizza, toss with chicken wings, brush on a pork tenderloin or serve with chicken tenders and onion rings for dipping!

This is also one of those great recipes that scales up beautifully. I like to double the ingredient amounts and bring a jar for a fun (and appreciated) hostess gift. You can also easily adapt both the flavors and level of spice depending on your family’s taste buds. I’ll sometimes add some cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes or chili powder for a little kick, add in some onion powder or garlic powder, or even a squeeze of fresh lemon juice or a dash of soy sauce.

Feel free to experiment; you basically cannot go wrong – let me know if you try this recipe and how you make it (and serve it)!
