halloween “in the house”: oreo mummies!

See – I told you googly eyes would be back!

oreo mummies

For my last post in this year’s series I’ve got something super easy for you – and only three ingredients!

These were a big hit in Noah’s class, and would be perfect to serve at your Halloween gatherings. I used traditional sandwich creme cookies here, but any round cookie will do – you can even go gluten-free.

Enjoy!

Oreo “Mummies”
idea inspired by Pinterest

24 round sandwich cookies
12 ounces white candy melts
candy eyeballs (I used these)

vegetable oil, if needed

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.

In the top half of a double boiler set over barely simmering water, melt the candy melts. Turn off the heat.

Working with one cookie at a time, place on a fork (I found it helpful to coat the fork with a little of the melted chocolate, to keep the cookie from sliding off). Hold the fork over the bowl of chocolate and use a spoon to pour it over the cookie. Gently tap the handle of the fork on the edge of the bowl so that the excess chocolate drips off, and slide the cookie onto your baking sheet. Repeat with remaining cookies; place in fridge to set.

Add a few drops of vegetable oil to the remaining melted chocolate, stirring over low heat and adding more oil as needed until it is smooth and very pourable. Dip a fork into the chocolate and wave it back and forth over the cookies to create a “mummy” effect. Dab a bit of the melted chocolate onto the backs of the eyes and place on the cookies. Return to fridge to set.
