favor-“ette”: mermade brooklyn, ny

mermade brooklyn, ny makes THE most charming hand-embroidered tea towels, baby gifts and more!

Happy Happy Monday!

I am super excited about today’s post, because it combines three of my favorite things!

Favorite Thing #1: A beautiful small business

During this time I am trying more than ever to support small businesses. As a small business myself I am hurting for all the makers and creators out there who don’t have the means and reach of larger companies, and are taking such a big hit right now. So I’m thrilled to share one of my very favorite small businesses: Mermade Brooklyn, NY!

Mermade Brooklyn, NY is the shop run by the very talented Meredith Siegel. There you will find sweet, cheeky, beautiful and one-of-a-kind hand embroidered pillows, sweatshirts, tea towels, baby items and more. If you are looking for a truly unusual handmade gift, look no further. This is just a sample of Meredith’s handiwork; there is truly nothing she can’t do (product photos courtesy of Meredith Siegel)!

Favorite Thing #2: Anything citrus

I love love love all things citrus – especially at this time of year, when it feels relentlessly gray and I’m longing for warm sunny weather. So I jumped for joy when Young Living introduced their brand new hand soap, Lushious Lemon. I wish you could smell this right now; I’m obsessed! It’s infused with Lemon, Lemon Myrtle, Spearmint and Ylang Ylang essential oils – and of course zero synthetic chemicals. And just look at this packaging!

I thought of Meredith immediately, and asked her if she would create tea towels inspired by Lushious Lemon. She was all in, which leads me to………..

I’m delighted to give three lucky winners a full-sized bottle of Lushious Lemon soap and a beautiful hand-embroidered tea towel. You can keep the set for yourself or give it as a gift – Mother’s Day is around the corner!

My go to has always been a container of various plants and flowers which can be transplanted into the ground after the last frost, if desired. I learned how to make a container garden from you! 🙂

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 11:02 am

Keira! And your mom taught me to garden……….xoxo

      • Nina on April 27, 2020 at 1:43 pm

For the past few years My go to is a handwritten note sharing in it what charity I donated to in their name and why i picked that specific charity for them
What about them is why i picked x charity
I attach that to a plant or bulbs and leave at their door explaining the importance of planting something that brings life

My mom has sadly passed and i miss her beyond ! so mother’s day is a very painful day for me even tho i am a blessed mom and despite my age
I also always say if your moms os still alive put down my card and call her , as you will never know how truly lucky you are
        HMD

Thank you for sharing this – as I scroll my social media feed on that day I can’t help but think about how hard it is for so many and for so many different reasons. I love your gift – as a gardener myself it resonates on many levels. Happy happy to you too!

Hi!! My go to moms day gift is usually a heartfelt card followed by a phone call for the ones i cant visit:) loving these towels they are so simple and pretty!! Atc40@optonline.net

          • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 6:02 pm

Love that – what more does a mom want, right? And yes I love Meredith’s aesthetic too – it just makes me happy when I look at her work!

    • Susan faber on April 27, 2020 at 11:13 am

My mother always told me to wait to plant my container flowers til after mother’s day to be sure the weather would not get too cold – so I always gave a hanging basket or potted annuals as Mother’s Day gifts to my mom , grandmother , sister and sister in law and a few other inspirational women in my life!! Then their gift would bloom all summer!!

      • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 3:44 pm

Love this – for many years the only thing I wanted for Mother’s Day was to have the morning – with iced coffee close by – to plant up my containers as I, too, had to wait for that day to safely plant!!

    • Michele Azan on April 27, 2020 at 12:34 pm

I was born in the Caribbean islands where we are surrounded by lots of tropical flowers and plants. With that said, “my go to” for mother’s day has always been making mini pots of plants or orchids from my garden. This way they will always remember my love

      • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 3:42 pm

        How perfect!

    • Katherine Power on April 27, 2020 at 8:33 pm

My go to is a framed photograph of us from the year prior – keep our memories together fresh and front and center !!

      • sherisilver on April 28, 2020 at 8:11 am

That is so lovely – how great to capture that one moment each year; the whole collection must be something to see! xo

I love to get my mom something for her kitchen. She loves Williams Sonoma

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 3:44 pm

LOVE Williams Sonoma – you can almost just close your eyes and point – you can’t go wrong! 🙂

  3. Helen Yeotsas on April 27, 2020 at 11:18 am

My go to is flowers for the garden! My mom had a crazy amazing green thumb and instilled in all of us a love for making things grow and for appreciating our Mother Earth! (Her birthday is Earth Day!!) ❤️

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 3:43 pm

A gardener born on Earth Day? Love that!!!

  4. Sarah Bucci on April 27, 2020 at 11:31 am

Hi there! My go-to Mother’s Day gift is a beautiful plant. My mother is a huge plant lover and an avid gardener. She recently mentioned that she was interested in purchasing a lemon tree to grow in their kitchen. Lemon tree, lemon towel, lemon soap – how perfect!

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 3:42 pm

I would LOVE to be able to have a lemon tree but I don’t think New York is the place for it! 🙂

  5. Patricia van Essche on April 27, 2020 at 12:45 pm

I made my Mom a book with memories and she told me she never knew I loved her so much.
I wish she were still here. I miss her.

  6. Kathleen Szur on April 27, 2020 at 1:11 pm

My go to gift for Mother’s Day for my daughter in law is usually a couple days worth of homemade meals that can be quickly put on the table after work along with her favorite muffins and tea. Since I cannot babysit with social distancing that offer will hopefully be taken up on soon!!!!
For my mother in law I always make up a basket of fresh herbs including stevia which is hard for her to find

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 3:41 pm

What a lucky daughter in law! So thoughtful and I bet you can’t wait to be babysitting again soon! 🙂

  7. Deb on April 27, 2020 at 1:30 pm

My favorite gift is throwing a brunch for my Mom with my daughter and sisters!

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 3:41 pm

Aw – love that! Will you be doing a Zoom version this year??

  8. Shari on April 27, 2020 at 2:50 pm

My go to has always been making brunch and mimosas. But now my mom is trying to wait the virus out in Florida and probably wont be back for Mother’s Day.

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 3:46 pm

This year it’s a tough one isn’t it? xoxo

  9. Annie Diamond on April 27, 2020 at 3:29 pm

Sheri! I love her work! It’s so beautiful and what a great combination for a giveaway! Who wouldn’t want to win!!

    • sherisilver on April 28, 2020 at 8:13 am

I knew you would – and I’m so lucky that she was open to collaborating on this idea!

  10. Lindsay on April 27, 2020 at 7:20 pm

I feel like my mom doesn’t want extra clutter in her home at this stage of life, so I’ve kind of started leaning towards service gifts rather than cute home decor, jewelry, etc. My most recent service was cleaning out her planters in front of her house. Fun to spend the afternoon together talking while I crawled into her hedges cleaning out the dead leaves getting ready for spring!

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 7:21 pm

How lovely! It’s great when you ask for and get what you REALLY want, right?

  11. Jaimee on April 27, 2020 at 7:34 pm

I found out about your giveaway through Annie (Most Lovely Things)! Our usual go-to Mother’s day gift for our mothers is a special meal at our home (or we go out for dinner!) + a bouquet of Trader Joe’s flowers. This year is so different…so we’re thinking about a gift of a PDF of coloring pages that they can print off in their own {safe} home and color! Thinking outside the box. 🙂

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 8:17 pm

We really do need to think creatively this year – especially when we are used to celebrating a given occasion “in person”! Thanks for visiting here! 🙂

  12. Jennifer on April 27, 2020 at 7:39 pm

I love finding a unique piece of jewelry with my mom’s favorite color.

    • sherisilver on April 27, 2020 at 8:16 pm

I am so reluctant to pick out jewelry for people! Although I suppose I could for my mom!! 🙂

  13. Adrianna on April 27, 2020 at 8:45 pm

My go to mother’s day gift is a plant. I normally get her a rose plant. This year she is getting a blueberry bush.

    • sherisilver on April 28, 2020 at 8:10 am

How thoughtful – she must have a garden full of plants that make her think of you!

  14. Melissa B on April 27, 2020 at 9:56 pm

I usually send flowers and make a donation to a woman-centric charity. Looking for new inspiration. I am a big fan of Meredith’s work!

    • sherisilver on April 28, 2020 at 8:09 am

Meredith is one to know – and she’s a lovely lady inside and out too!

  15. Mary Ellen on April 27, 2020 at 10:22 pm

My mom loves Evelyn and Crabtree so I give her a basket of items in her favorite scent. This year I am adding a set of Eileen Fisher pjs …because at this time, who can’t use an extra pair of pjs?

    • sherisilver on April 28, 2020 at 8:09 am

Eileen Fisher makes the softest clothing on earth – I can only imagine how heavenly pjs would be (especially now!!!)!

  16. Bev Clapman on April 27, 2020 at 11:27 pm

I love everything lemony and Lushious Lemon looks soooo wonderful! What a great idea for a Mother’s Day gift! And your post is as charming as you.

  17. Dina Bailey on April 28, 2020 at 7:32 am

One of my moms favorite things is for her and I to get away for a few hours together and shop then come home and eat with the rest of the family 🙂 This is a really lovely give away!

    • sherisilver on April 28, 2020 at 8:08 am

That’s just what I do with my daughter each year – we go for a mega walk throughout the city and meet up with my husband and sons for dinner – the best!

  18. Karen on April 28, 2020 at 8:28 am

My mom has passed she had 7 children and I am the oldest so I always knew my mom would ask me to do the most.I miss her and wish I had always done more, but I would just take her for a car ride to get her out of the house and we drive around our town where we grew up and talk about the places and the people she knew. Simple things maybe some new pj or a nice card .just to come by an visit her.Love my mom

    • sherisilver on April 28, 2020 at 8:31 am

I’m so sorry – and I bet that those times spent together were priceless. Who remembers things more than memories? You’re a good daughter. Happy Mother’s Day!
