diy foaming hand soap is SO easy, smells divine & 100% customizable!
Happy April guys – I hope you’re all doing well.
I’ve gotten such nice feedback on my recent round-up posts – hopefully they’ve made it a little easier to come up with dinner ideas, bake with the kids (and have fun doing so!), and fill those more frequent stretches of “free time”.
I also realized that I’ve been stockpiling a few DIY posts that I think are very timely for right now. I’m going to roll one out every week this month, and I hope you find them useful!
As I’ve written, I got into essential oils as a last-ditch effort to solve one of two problems I was having – the first being the need to improve my overall wellness. And I’m so, so thankful that I did. I soon realized that the oils could also be useful in solving my second problem – how to replace all of the toxic cleaning products in our home, that I now knew were even worse than I’d suspected. I was never one for “homesteading”, but soon found myself knee-deep in the world of DIY household products. And also completely obsessed, TBH.
The first item I made? This foaming hand soap.
Working with food all day means I wash my hands a LOT – and between the drying properties and horrible toxins of most soaps, I knew that hand soap was something I wanted to replace stat. And it turns out (like most of the DIYs I’m going to share with you) that making your own is easy and FUN!

8-ounce foaming soap dispenser
2 tablespoons unscented liquid castile soap**
1 teaspoon vitamin E (optional; I happened to have some on-hand)
1 tablespoon almond or fractionated coconut oil
20 drops essential oils (suggested combinations, below)
Add all of the ingredients except the water to your dispenser. Slowly fill with the distilled water, leaving room for the pump. Add the pump and shake to combine. You’ll want to give the bottle a shake every now and then.
A few of my favorite blends:
15 Thieves, 5 Lemon
14 Peppermint, 6 Rosemary
10 Lavender, 10 Citrus Fresh
14 Orange, 6 Frankincense
10 Patchouli, 10 Lavender
10 Grapefruit, 10 Stress Away

** Although I had always seen castile soap at the grocery store, I never really knew what it was. But since it’s in almost every DIY I’ve made I wanted to learn more. Originally named after the olive-oil based soaps from Castile, Spain, castile soaps are made from olive and other plant- or nut-based oils. Castile soap is vegan, cruelty-free and totally natural and non-toxic – as well as biodegradable. It’s both gentle enough to be used in beauty products but strong enough to be a household cleaner. And it’s as affordable as it is diverse.
Come back next week for another DIY!
