halloween “in the house”: blood splattered cookies

Ew.

Yet, awesome.

These cookies are so easy – and so much fun – that I suspect that you are already thinking about how quickly you’re going to be able to make them.

The good news is that they’re super fast, too.

All you need is a batch of sugar or shortbread cookies (homemade, slice-and-bake or store bought), some royal icing and red food coloring. I used this recipe, eliminating the coconut, but any round sturdy cookie will work.

Simply ice the tops of your cookies and let them sit overnight to dry. Thin out the remaining icing and dye it red (you’ll get the best results with gel paste dye, versus the liquid dye you find at the grocery store).

Use a fork or clean paintbrush to spatter the cookies (practice on a sheet of wax paper first, till you get the feel of it), and let dry overnight again.

Then gross out everybody!

Props to the talented Annie for the great idea.
