happy new year – let’s eat!

Happy New Year all! Hope your holidays were fabulous, spent doing things you love with those you love most.

We had a busy and fun break #sixteendaysofnoschool.

There were LOTS of movies – both the child and grown-up variety. Highlights for me were “Song of the Sea” (gorgeous animation and a refreshing break from the typical fare), “Whiplash” (amazing acting and a story that left you drained at the finish) and “Wild” (knew it would be good – didn’t expect it to be so great that I’m considering seeing it again).

And of course lots of day trips to Brooklyn and NYC – with my big kids, little kid and good friends (and their kids).

We visited the Brooklyn Flea’s new winter home (twice!) and I highly recommend checking it out. There’s a new food hall – Berg’n – that serves up fabulous food, beer and cocktails, and all my fave Flea vendors (along with some new ones) are there in full force.

We had Korean barbecue in a restaurant on the 39th floor of an office building near Herald Square that was one of the more unique experiences I’ve had dining out in the city – incredible views north and west, which the kids could not get enough of.

We also dined at Wild – a pretty and cozy West Village spot that boasts delicious food and a more-than-decent vegan offering too (always a challenge when eating out in a large group).

And our two favorite train shows – the New York Botanical Garden (bonus tip: if you go at 9:00 a.m. you will be the only ones there) and Grand Central Terminal.

And now it’s back to normal.

Le sigh.

But I’m super excited for the coming year – I’ve got so much to share with you all, and I’m kicking things off with TWO easy and delicious recipes that are just right for right now!

On Babble you’ll find THIS genius sheet pan chicken caesar that is as fabulous as it is quick and simple!

If you liked the sheet pan salmon I posted a while back, you will love this dish just as much.

And on VRAI Magazine I’m making THE best tomato soup ever (the secret? roasting the tomatoes!), with – wait for it – grilled cheese croutons.

This is ground breaking stuff you guys, including the ingredient that will make your grilled cheese even better.

Hope this makes re-entry a little easier – have a great day!
