favor-“ette”: makr

As the most un-crafty person in the blogiverse, I am often frustrated by other bloggers’ charming and clever creations. Why can’t it be me turning out those cute gift tags? That gorgeous calligraphy? Those sweet labels?

Well guess what – it CAN be me! And you too!

I am all over a new app called Makr  – and you are going to love it. A design app created for the iPad, Makr is based in Brooklyn (holla!), and was developed “to bring DIY to the 21st century, using digital tech to enrich the handmade movement and our shared love of old-fashioned craft. Makr provides sophisticated design tools – exclusive to professional studio use until now – to the local maker’s workshop and DIYer’s home.”

It’s pretty awesome you guys.

Once I installed the app my head was fairly swimming with all of the possibilities floating across my screen. Stickers and tags for all manner of foodie gifts. Customizable note cards and invitations. Menus, recipe cards and labels galore.

The app is user-friendly and intuitive too – which, coming from this non-techy gal is EVERYTHING. Pick your project and use one of the existing designs as your “base”, or create your own. You can then either purchase the hi-res PDF for unlimited downloading, or order high quality prints directly from the app.

If you are a regular visitor here you’ve probably noticed that while I make lots of  food gifts, they are typically…”unadorned” (save the occasional baker’s string/jute twine/holly sprig). And while yes, I do favor a clean and simple aesthetic, I secretly long for a little something extra to complete the look.

So I plan on rolling this app out regularly – especially once the holidays approach – to jazz up those cookies, cakes and brittles that I love to gift.

But for now I used it to create a little favor for Noah to give out to his classmates on the last day of school:

These sunny little labels will decorate handmade envelopes, filled with sunflower seeds (I’ll share the how-to later in the week, with – wait for it – another printable, wha??).

I also made these tags to attach to the teacher gifts I’m putting together:

Can you tell how excited I am??

Well get YOUR font on people, because the nice folks at Makr are offering my lovely readers a free credit and 20% off a print order! Just register with the referral code NEWMAKRFAN and enter same code at checkout.

Have fun you guys!

Note: I was not compensated for this post. Makr kindly gave me a discount and credit to use personally, along with a discount and credit to offer to my readers. All comments and opinions expressed here are – as always – completely my own.
