noun lär-ˈjes
generous giving : a generous gift

This was the kind of day where the pictures truly tell the story better than any words. Chelsea came home for a long weekend and Noah and I were lucky enough to have her join us on our weekly outing.

We went up to Storm King Art Center. Storm King is not so much a museum as it is a 500-acre outdoor sculpture park. It is one of the most magnificent settings in the New York area and we picked an absolutely perfect day to go. The weather was comfortably cool and the leaves were just starting to show their fall colors.

There are sculptures by some of the most acclaimed artists of our time represented here and you can’t help but be completely enthralled by their scale, size and power, as well as how sensitively they are sited in the landscape.

And the landscape – vistas, allees, hills that appear to be carpeted and beg to be climbed – it is a truly magical place.

Indeed, the day felt like a big and generous gift – watching my little boy run in seemingly endless fields, looking at works of art that, from his perspective had to seem infinite, and spending the day with his favorite big sister (who took many of the photos you see here).

I had my girl home, my little boy was happy and engaged and I was spending time surrounded by art in a glorious setting.

I felt really lucky.

Look! I’m commenting! I loved this post! Really great pictures too – very hard to capture the scale of the sculptures…and you did it! Absolutely beautiful pictures that captured how special the day was.
