snack it to me: hot cocoa muddy buddies

The quest to answer the burning question, “will it Muddy Buddy?” continues.

And I can honestly say that THESE Muddy Buddies? Might very well be my faves so far.

They took a bit of tweaking – like, I discovered that the hot cocoa mix should be added to the white chocolate as well as the confectioner’s sugar, and do NOT (despite what you see in the photo) use marshmallows to coat the cereal (Fluff only, please). But the results were insanely worth it.

How do I know?

I know because I found myself “dipping in” to the container at totally inappropriate times of day.

Like, 8-a.m.-inappropriate.

Or how, after a day or so I completely abandoned the notion that I could put a normal-human-sized serving into a bowl and be done.

No, after a day or so I simply sat with the open container next to me, trying not to get hot cocoa mix and confectioner’s sugar all over my keyboard.

(this? never actually happened.)

So – as with all Muddy Buddy recipes – consider yourself warned. These. Were. Good.

What should I “Muddy Buddy” next?

Hot Cocoa Muddy Buddies

For the Hot Cocoa Muddy Buddies
4 cups Corn Chex
6 ounces (1 cup) white candy melts or chocolate chips
4 packets hot cocoa mix, divided
1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar, divided

For the Marshmallow Muddy Buddies:
4 cups Corn Chex
6 ounces (1 cup) white candy melts or chocolate chips
2 tablespoons butter
7 ounces Fluff
1 cup confectioner’s sugar

1 – 2 cups mini marshmallows (optional)

Line two baking sheets with parchment or wax paper.

Make the Hot Cocoa Muddy Buddies: Combine the confectioner’s sugar and 2 packets of hot cocoa mix in a gallon-size ziploc bag. Melt the candy melts in a medium bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water. Remove bowl from heat and whisk in the remaining 2 packets of hot cocoa mix. Add the cereal and fold to thoroughly coat. Transfer mixture to the ziploc bag, close and shake to coat all of the cereal evenly. Spread out on one of your baking sheets to set. Wash and dry the bowl.

Make the Marshmallow Muddy Buddies: Place the confectioner’s sugar in a gallon-size ziploc bag. Melt the candy melts, butter and Fluff in the cleaned bowl, set over a pan of barely simmering water. Remove from heat and add the cereal, folding to thoroughly coat. Transfer to the ziploc bag, close and shake to coat evenly. Spread out on the other baking sheet to set.

Mix both cereals together (along with the marshmallows, if using) and store in an airtight container at room temperature.
