favor-“ette”: a skin care tip

A friend and I were chatting on Facebook recently, sharing our skin care routines. This woman is close to my age and is as obsessed with taking care of her skin as I am. She also has amazing skin, and manages to accomplish looking youthful and yet totally natural – so I was paying close attention. And one of her favorite tricks turns out to be one of mine too:

extra moisturizer

We both agreed that  – while one can employ outside “assistance” to keep one’s face in a more timeless state – hands? They never lie. And so it’s important to take just as good care of your hands as you do your face and neck.

And an easy way to do this is to take whatever you’re using on your face – serums, moisturizers and especially sunscreen – and rub some in to the backs of your hands.

extra moisturizer

I’ve been doing this for so long it’s now habit – and one you should employ too.

What’s your favorite skin care tip?

I use coconut oil right out of the jar at night. Slather it on my face, but I like a greasy feeling in my face creams.

Definitely! This is why you haven’t seen Madonna without gloves in public for years. Hands are a dead giveaway of age.

Yes, especially now in the harsh crazy cold. I think I have to run and get my hand cream right now (I’m actually using night cream on my hands these days).

Make sure to check the ingredients in your products, though! The skin absorbs a lot, and 80% of ingredients in personal care products have never been tested for safety and many have been linked to cancer, reproductive issues and hormone disruption. Check the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database and find your products to see how they score. Not to be a wet blanket but…
