favor-“ette”: pinhole press

For almost 25 years I’ve been archiving my family’s photos the same way – gathering the year’s worth of pictures and painstakingly taping them into an album, collage-style.

If I’m super organized I will have broken the task down into two sessions – one mid-year, the other at the end of the year (I think this happened………….once.).

And while it’s been mostly a labor of love I was ready for a change – to step into the present and take advantage of the many “on-line” options available. My photos have been digital for years so it seemed like a natural next step.

I did some research and selected Pinhole Press. I loved the simplicity and quality of their products, and the look of their albums was right in line with my own aesthetic.

I selected the Signature Photo Book and got started. I’m not the most intuitive user of programs like these, so trust me when I tell you that it couldn’t have been easier. You simply upload your photos and place them on the appropriate pages. It’s easy to crop, delete and move images around too – so I wasn’t wasting a lot of time trying to figure out how to make changes or correct mistakes.

I received my album and could NOT be happier. The photos look so beautiful and the outer cover and binding has such a rich, expensive look and feel. It’s gorgeous, and I look forward to filling my shelves year after year.

I was initially disappointed to find that you can’t add text or captions to the pages to this particular album – but what I might do next time is insert the text directly onto selected photos. I’m also going to try to be more disciplined about going through my photos monthly, and pulling out the ones I’ll want for that year’s album – so I’m ready to go when the year is up (we’ll see how that goes!).

In addition to photo albums, Pinhole Press offers so many lovely and unique gift ideas too – calendars, gift boxes for all occasions, labels and decals, puzzles and more.

This was so much easier than the cutting/taping I’ve been doing all these years, and I’m thrilled to have stepped into the “future” for archiving my family’s memories. I ordered a duplicate album for my parents, so that they too can start a library of their own.

And the customer service is fabulous. I had several blank pages at the end of my book, so I called the company and they offered to remove them once my order was placed.

I’d love to know how you archive your family photos – do you use actual photographs or create albums from a site like this? Please share any tips you have!

Note: I was not compensated for this post. Pinhole Press was kind enough to give me a gift certificate toward the purchase of a photo album;  all comments and opinions expressed here are – as always – completely my own.

So Wonderful Sheri! I was just thinking about intentional photo organizing and how much time I could save every year if I did it all along.Culling them anyway for blogging. And THIS would be a great goal to do that for. Thank you so much. And hope for a snow day so I’ll sit down and do the work. Ha.
    This looks beautiful.
    Love to you,
    Shalagh
