halloween “in the house”: cheesecloth ghosts!

As we decorated the house for Halloween and I pulled these out I realized that I’ve never shared them here!

These ghosts (courtesy of Martha Stewart) are probably my favorite decorations, and they are insanely simple to make too!

Here’s how:

Styrofoam mannequin heads (available at wig/beauty supply stores or on-line)
Cheesecloth (two standard-size packages per head)
Watered down white glue
Foam brush
Screw eyes
Monofilament or other thin string

Cut each piece of cheesecloth in half, for a total of four pieces.

Drape a layer of cheesecloth over the head, then brush glue all over head and face (avoiding neck). Use your hands to smooth the cloth so that the features come through.

Repeat with remaining cheesecloth and let dry (you don’ t have to dry between layers).

Place a screw eye in the top of the head – use string to hang.

These are so freaky! (In a good Halloween way, of course!)
