101: wardrobe transitioning (summer to fall)

So when I wrote this post back in spring – about wardrobe transitioning from winter to spring – I figured it would cover the reverse too. You know, summer to fall.

But it’s actually a little different. It’s still been quite mild here in New York, yet the outfits I lived in all summer feel past their expiration date.

Here’s how I keep a little bit of “summer” as I slowly transition into the new season:

madewell muscle tank

This muscle tee – which I LIVED in all summer with shorts and maxi skirts – is a perfect layering piece too. The longish length looks adorable peeking out of a cropped cotton sweater. Or tucked into these jeans, under a leather jacket.

boden shirt dress

Remember this dress from a few months back? I’m so glad I bought it in a darker blue – with the sleeves rolled down, a pair of tights and a cardi, I’ll be wearing this for a few more months for sure.

black suede arizona birkenstocks

I’m also still rocking my Birks – loving them now with my fave jeans and a warmer top.

madewell cotton scarf

A cotton scarf is the perfect way to “autumn-ize” (yes, I just made that up) your look – even if it’s just a simple white tee and a pair of jeans (and this one’s on sale!).

zara trench coat

Same with a trench – I bought one similar to this years ago and I love how it makes the simplest outfit look pulled together – and it’s the perfect weight for this time of year.

Of course the pieces from my winter-to-spring post are staples too. As I’ve been rebuilding my wardrobe, I’m relying more and more on fewer and fewer pieces – and making sure those pieces are hard working. Like these boots. And this dress. And this shirt.

Chime in, please! If you live in a part of the world with changing seasons, how do you ease your summer look into fall?
