blove: south of brooklyn

Oh, this is GOOD.

And something a little different, too.

Typically I use this space to share blogs I’ve been reading for some time. So there’s always lots of content to scroll through, pore over and select. And lately I’ve been asking the blogger I’m featuring to submit his or her favorite posts.

But when I found out about South of Brooklyn – the latest creation of the supremely talented Dave Cooper and Jennifer Cooper, I couldn’t possibly wait to let you all know about it.

South of Brooklyn is, without a doubt, one of the best things to come across my screen in a long time.

What’s it all about?

“Here you will find stories of the makers, artists, and entrepreneurs that inspire us. We think they will inspire you too.”

Both Dave and Jennifer are using this space to find out what makes creative, successful people who they are, and to share their stories. And since Dave is an incredible photographer – and Jen an equally gifted writer/creator/producer – the execution is as inspired as the stories (and subjects) themselves.

Here’s what – and who – you’ll find on South of Brooklyn (all photos courtesy of Dave Cooper):

Compelling food and travel stories, like this one featuring Dylan Salmon, of Dylan’s Oyster Cellar:

“I have always been very into food and was drawn to the French view of the oyster as a near perfect food: it grows its own bowl to serve it in, produces its own sauce (the liquor), tastes of its own terroir, and might be the only truly sustainable seafood.”

And Kevin Blodger and Jon Zerivitz of Union Craft Brewing:

“I can’t sing, I can’t paint so I like to think I express myself artistically through the beers I brew.”

You will also be treated to beautiful short films – I especially loved listening to husband and wife artists and designers Shauna Alterio and Stephen Loidolt of Forage Haberdashery – their story was sweet and inspiring.

“We have always found something that already exists in the world. We have a different point of view of what it should look like.”

Since South of Brooklyn is still so new, you can easily catch up with all of the great stories and films – and you’ll want to immerse yourself in each and every one, promise.

And then you can join me in pestering Jen and Dave for the next installment.

So fond of these two.

Were you to tell me you were coming to Balto., I’d drive recklessly and take chances to meet you there Sheri, no joke. I would think Jen and Dave would have first dibs on you though. Thank you so much and I look forward to slurping “ersters which you hon”.
