favor-“ette”: a mascara tip

Remember my Eyes/Cheeks/Lips post? And how much time I spent talking about mascara?

I do love my mascara. And I’ve been on a life-long hunt for “the one”. The mascara that does it all:

1. Layers like the dickens without clumping.

2. Comes off easily, with my regular facial cleanser and minimal rubbing.

3. Lengthens AND thickens.

Demanding, aren’t I?

And I’m thrilled to say I have found it, thanks to my intrepid make-up scout/partner-in-crime Chelsea:

Surprised, right? You thought I was going to show you one of those fancy-schmancy $20-something department store brands. And I have tried those too. All of them. And yes, it’s a Maybelline mascara, but NOT the “famous” one.

But Chelsea swore up and down that this was THE ONE. So I plunked down $8 and gave it a try.

Swoon.

And though I thought I had shared all of my mascara tips, when I took a look back at that old post I realized I forgot one!

mascara in hot water

As I’ve said before, you should absolutely toss your mascara after 3 months. It’s not meant to last longer than that, and you are inviting trouble if you keep it around, as it will begin to harbor pesky bacteria.

And…as I’ve said before, you can keep your mascara from drying out by never – ever – pumping the wand (which puts air into the tube. Air = dried out mascara. Blech.)

But if you notice that your mascara’s looking/feeling a little dry (or you – tsk tsk – didn’t listen to my advice), you can revive it by placing the tube in a cup of hot water for 5-10 minutes. Works like a charm!

So tell me – what is YOUR favorite, won’t-leave-the-house-without-it-on beauty item?

My Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer. Expensive but so very worth it for me nothing else provides the amount of coverage I need for the dark circles under my eyes.

I hate to admit this but I’m a total concealer fail – can never get it to look natural! What’s your secret?

Using a brush cover under entire eye from outside corner to inside corners apply also where inner eye and nose meet sweep slightly upwards and in circular motion covering the entire area where inner eye and nose meet. Take a triangular makeup foam wedge sold at drug stores and dab outer to inner eyelid and along inner eyelid and side of nose. Whoala !! you’re done.
Let me know what you think if you try it.
