nyc-etc: renegade craft fair

You may recall last year a quick visit to the Renegade Craft Fair in Williamsburg. We tacked it onto a Brooklyn Flea run, and by the time we got there it was hot as blazes. We managed to take a decent look though, and made note to come back this year.

Well, it was hot as blazes again, but we got there nice and early and it was well worth the trip.

The fair is a curated marketplace, comprised of all manner of handmade goods – everything from clothing and jewelry to ceramics and housewares, bath and body products, screen-printed art and more.

This time we made our way through every booth, and I’ve selected some of my favorites to share with you:

Greenwich Letterpress – a sister team of third generation printers, I loved these charming little pins.

Collarbone – These minimalist necklaces are 100% me.

Gold Teeth Brooklyn – I was unexpectedly smitten with these nautically themed buoy and canoe ornaments.

Two Arms – one of my favorites. Michael and Karen are the super talented team behind Two Arms, creating the most fabulous vintage-y prints, apparel and stationery. Remember my obsession with Herb Lester Associates? Well, the “Brooklyn” map (which I’ve had on my must-get list) is theirs – and they were nice enough to gift me one (thanks again guys!). Take a look at their portfolio.

Brooklyn Soapworks – what can I say? I’m a sucker for soap. These are truly lovely – fragrant, sudsy, and best of all, stay fragrant till the end of the bar (a big problem with handmade soaps, that for some reason always seem to lose their scent about half-way through). Justine had her full-size bars for sale at the fair in addition to smaller pieces that you could mix and match – which is what I purchased.

Nelle Design – you will totally fall for these handmade ceramic pieces by Nelle (love her artist’s statement too).

Emily Jeffords – I was very excited about seeing Emily’s work. We met at Alt NYC and had connected a bit online prior to the conference. Emily creates unique and beautiful collage-themed jewelry and artwork that you must take a look at. Her pieces would make a perfect gift.

And because I’m also all about the food, a shout out to Pop Karma, whose white truffle-cheddar popcorn did not even last the ride home.

Renegade Craft Fair takes place all over the country, so check the site for details. In New York, it happens over one weekend in the summer (in Williamsburg, right next door to the Brooklyn Flea or Smorgasburg, depending on which day you go) and again in the fall (in the same beautiful Brooklyn bank where the winter Flea  is).

Meanwhile, take a look on-line at these talented artisans – how nice to gift someone something handmade and truly original (or get something for yourself that you won’t see coming and going)!

Sherri, great post! I love fairs, and lately I have so busy, I seem to hear of them after they happen. This one looks exactly what I would like. I checked out their site and they will be in SF the end of this month. I will make the drive up. 🙂 thanks!!

Great wrap-up and thanks for the shout out! Double thanks for coming out on such a hot weekend. The inspirational thing from the vendor side was meeting customers and noting how well dressed everyone was for the weather. That was just as inspirational! Craft must bring out a creative, artsy crowd.
