couple of things

Hi all!

Before I share this month’s links I wanted to catch you up on what’s been happening around here lately!

First – a short recap of my “wheat-free” month. If you recall, I decided to go wheat-free, not gluten-free (yes, there IS a difference). And I was not nearly as rigid as I was during my dairy and sugar- free months – especially when doughnuts happened.

The results? About the same as my sugar-free month. I didn’t experience any withdrawl, and definitely didn’t notice  any major changes to my energy level or overall well-being. I discovered that Udi’s bread is my favorite (though, like all GF bread, you MUST toast it first). And that Glutino makes yummy bagel chips.

And now that I’m completely “free” to eat whatever I want, I’ve decided to change my formerly wicked ways. I’ve  reduced my intake of dairy, sugar and wheat – especially during the day. And I’m more thoughtful in the choices I make – no more mindless grabbing of the gummy bears at CVS, or those so-not-worth-it packaged cookies after dinner.

So while there were no life-altering changes that resulted from my little experiment, I can honestly say that it has created changes to my diet that are much healthier – and that I can realistically live with.

Moving on!

I wanted to share some exciting news with you – I’ve decided to partner on occasional sponsored posts on my blog. This was a big decision for me,  as you know how much I value the trust and relationship I have with you all. I always want this to be a place where you will find content that comes from my heart, and that I stand behind completely.

That said, I’ve been working really, really hard here – harder than any “real” job I’ve ever had, believe it or not. And seeking carefully selected – and yes, paid – opportunities is essential for me to continue to grow this little blog of mine.

So what does this all mean?

That once in a while you’ll see a sponsored post  here. You’ll know it right away, as I would never try to hide the facts from you. And it will always be about a product or service that I believe in, and one that fits with the content you see here week after week.

I’m so excited about this “next step”, especially the opportunity to grow my audience and expand my reach. I’m a little nervous too, and am grateful for your support!

Okay then! Enough “me” – here are some of my latest favorite links from around the world wide web:

I hope this is a regular feature – analyzing the decor of “Mad Men”. First up? Pete Campbell’s wannabe pied-à-terre.

Did you know that you can freeze avocados?

Must try….

This. Is me.

I know – it’s $28. But would you pay it for a standing spreader knife?

And am I the last person to discover “Thug Kitchen“? (Warning: this site contains – um – “strong” language…)

Happy Friday! Noah and I are driving down to Delaware tomorrow to pack up a vanload of Chelsea’s things, in preparation for her (gulp!) graduation next month. So it begins…

Have a great weekend!

I just love your blog, Sheri. Rest assured, any “friend” of yours, is a friend of mine! ( I would bet that EVERYONE else who is a fan of your blog feels the same way.) Not knowing how blogs work, I am very happy to learn that there is a wonderful way for you to keep growing, doing what you are doing, sharing what you are sharing and prospering at the same time!!

ps… Best of luck and congratulations to Chelsea!!

Wonderful post! I think it so wonderful how honest you are about sponsored posts. I think it such an upfront way to address the fact that you need to make this blog sustainable (your life work etc). Sometimes I am on a blog and after I leave, I realize, damn! I just have been had. I know that most blogs are upfront, but i have sometimes seen very crafty ways of product placement. Luckily I have a brain, though it kicks in kinda late sometimes!

thanks for your sincerity! And congrats to Chelsea! gulp indeed! xo

Thanks SO much Rebecca – it took me a loooong time time to figure out my end game here and it’s here I want to stay. Feedback like yours is invaluable to me and I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to reach out. xoxo

I’m afraid we may be addicted to paper towels, too, for roughly the same reasons. 🙁

That standing spreader…. Is it just me or does that seem like a solution to a non-existent problem? Has Cambria never used a spoon-rest or a plate?

That being said, there’s a company called Dreamfarm that makes clever kitchen tools that don’t rest on the table and aren’t as easy to knock over (http://www.dreamfarm.com/supoon/). I’ve had to add a few of these to my Amazon wishlist.

    Have fun this weekend!

      Definitely a “first world” problem!
Uh – Dreamfarm? I want everything on that site! Thanks for sharing – have a great weekend!

Hello! I stumbled upon your blog while looking for inspiration for my cutting garden. I love what you did with yours with the different layers and planning for something to be in bloom each season. I am actually planning on copying your garden exactly since I am a true beginner at any gardening, hope you don’t mind!

We are in the process of tearing out the grass on the side of the house and we are not sure how deep it should be- it’s going to be about 25 feet long. How deep does your garden go? So far it’s about five feet from the house,

    Thank you so much!
