Hey all! I’m so excited to be sharing one of my favorite new discoveries with you today – Verily Magazine!
I’ve been a devoted reader of Verily since they launched last year. And while I will never give up my New York Magazine, Fine Gardening and (duh) Martha, it’s been a long time since I’ve subscribed to a “women’s” publication. I swear I’m like the Goldilocks of readers in this category. The magazines out there are either too youthful, too old or too conservative.
But Verily is “just right”.
I love the mix of fashion, food, health and culture. The writing is smart and sophisticated and (I think) appeals to women in all ages and stages of life.
Ashley Crouch of Verily graciously made time for a little interview, which I’m happy to share with you right here!

There are so many blogs, websites and magazines devoted to women – why did you feel the need to start one of your own?
Verily grew out of a conversation between women over brunch. We were discussing the topic of women’s magazines and how most of them didn’t reflect our lives or philosophies as women. We felt overlooked so we decided to start something totally new – to begin the fresh conversations we wanted to be having!
Verily Magazine is less about who you should be, and more about who you are. We give real women the opportunity to lay it down. To be totally honest and upfront about what they are encountering in life and how they’re handling it. This won’t be sugarcoated, preachy or out of touch, it will be like sitting down with a best friend over coffee and having a straight talk.
We showcase fashion that is worthy of the woman; discuss cultural and lifestyle topics that offer strong journalism; empower women in their relationships with advice that goes beyond sex tips.
Though there is no “typical” woman – how would you describe the Verily reader?
Verily appeals to the woman who is curious, intelligent, passionate, creative. She is eager to live a life filled with appreciation for the beauty found in her everyday experiences; to embrace the best parts of herself and grow towards a stronger, happier woman; to engage in authentic conversations; to be thoughtful about her relationships and career aspirations; to grow in integrity and become the best version of herself. We strive to be that woman and hope other women will join us on the journey.
Since launching Verily, what has surprised you most? Anything “unexpected”?
Having to learn Twitter! Haha, but seriously, we have constantly faced twists and turns that come with any start-up. Coffee is our best friend and we fight against the snooze button every morning. But one of the things we most appreciate is the positive reaction from our readers, who regularly call Verily “a breath of fresh air” or “so uplifting.” That’s what we want to be!
We’re that sweet spot of educational, aspirational and everyday content for women; an outlet of intelligent curiosity.
One of the things I love most about Verily is the variety of topics and features – always something new to discover! Can you share with me and my readers anything exciting in the works?
We’re busy as bees trying to keep up with the great developments in the works! We just launched our brand new website yesterday, so take a peek for daily fresh content on style, relationships, lifestyle and culture.
Plus, we’re conducting photo shoots and working with new writers all the time, preparing for the launch of our first issue in May! Help us start a new, better conversation for women by subscribing today!
The magazine and website are designed to be your go-to hub of engaging, aspirational, and uplifting content for women; an outlet of intelligent curiosity. Share the good news with friends and stay up to date on the latest by following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
“It will be like sitting down with a best friend over coffee and having a straight talk.” Don’t you love that? Here are two “sneak peaks” of the magazine that Ashley was kind enough to let me preview for you:

With the veritable flood of information coming at me every day on-line, I tend to get overwhelmed and simply shut it down. I so appreciate having a few carefully selected “go-to’s” for whatever expert advice I’m seeking. Which is why I’such a fan of Verily, and I think you’ll be too!
Note: this is not a sponsored post; all thoughts and opinions are – as always – my own.
