blove: living on love

Today’s “blove” is yet another example of what a gift blogging has been to me – specifically when it comes to connecting with people whose paths I never would have crossed otherwise.

This “community” of (mostly) women – who are (mostly) younger than me, from all walks of life, all parts of the country, and varying religious and political points of view – consistently reminds me that you truly never know if that next lovely relationship is waiting right around the corner. Often from someone you’d least expect.

Living on Love is no stranger to these pages. Lacy and I go “way back” (in bloggy years, that is) – and she was one of the first to reach out to me and make me feel like my blog had some “there” there. Hers was the first blog I guest posted on, and she is beyond generous when it comes to supporting her fellow creators.

Although I liked Living on Love right from the beginning, I have to say I love it even more today. In the relatively short time I’ve been reading, I’ve been most impressed with how Lacy’s writing style and photography have grown and evolved.  So often I will let a blog drop off my “must-reads” because the content gets stale or predictable.  Not here.

Living on Love Is about “trying to live a big life in a simple way.”

And basically, I want to take a long retreat at Lacy’s house.

Because there you’ll find things like backyard movie parties. Tin can herb gardens. Dutch babies (I LOVE Dutch babies).

I almost hesitated to share these, lest she sound like some pious modern-day Laura Ingalls. Yes, she makes her own headboards, and dresses for her daughters. And adorable owl mobiles.

But what makes the blog relatable (even to the non-DIY likes of me),  is that Lacy is smart, warm, and so damn likable.

She never judges. She just shares. And, in fact, often questions whether her “back to basics” lifestyle choices – one thing when she and her husband were childless – might negatively impact her two young daughters as they get older.

So even though we live very different lives – and I will never – EVER – live on a farm, I tune into Living on Love regularly. And I know that I will always find a warm and welcoming space. There is so much snarkiness out there in cyberspace right now. And the fact that “Mommy Wars” articles still abound makes me head for the hills, looking for a space that is calm and sunny.

I love that Lacy has made the choice to live life with her young family on her terms, and is unwavering in her commitment to maintain an integrity that – especially these days – is just so tempting to toss aside in the name of convenience.

And I totally don’t care that her spiral cookies came out way better than mine. Not one little bit.

Great series! Lacy’s blog is so lovely. And now I know what Dutch Babies are! I’ve got to try those one of these week-ends. ps…how is the no-sugar going?

Thanks so much! Have DEFINITELY scaled back the sugar (Peeps aside, of course ;)). Don’t miss it and feel much better – even if it’s just in my head – about mindlessly grabbing some empty, useless calories!

You nailed everything I love about Lacy too. And I didn’t know that you two go way back–but I can TOTALLY see why. Both of you are amazing women and I am so glad to know you.

    LOVED this.
