woke up, it was a chelsea morning

Our last Thursday was our “last Thursday“.

And it was hot. Blazing hot. The kind of hot that should have sent us right to a pool- any pool – or sent the boy to school for a morning in the sprinklers, followed by a nice cool nap indoors.

No way.

Noah was starting camp on Monday – five days a week – and I was intent on making this day a memorable one for both of us. I just had to figure out how to cope with the ridiculous forecast.

Fortunately, I had just read a great article in New York magazine, filled with unique kids’ summertime activities, and I quickly cobbled together a plan. It was perfect – one of my favorite neighborhoods, lots of water fun, and two new-to-us destinations.

So off we went.

Our first stop was Chelsea Waterside Park, a cleverly designed playground tucked away like an oasis between two very busy avenues. I loved the cool design and Noah loved all of the great features. He quickly got busy:

Next, we went across the street to the Pier 62 Carousel – an unusual merry-go-round consisting of 33 hand carved animals. But not the usual suspects – on this carousel you can ride a seahorse, a raccoon or even a turkey. Noah was fascinated and wanted to ride, but as you may remember from our last carousel experience, he likes to stay more……grounded. So the chariot it was.

Best $2 I ever spent.

We ended the day at one of my favorite places of all – the High Line.  We cooled off with a stroll in the water feature, and a couple of ice pops.

Give this boy a stick and a grate.

I could not have imagined a more perfect ending to our Thursdays.

Picture perfect.
