nyc food blogger bake sale

My friend Elizabeth (of the delicious hand pies from a few weeks ago) recently posted about her participation in an upcoming bake sale, to benefit two very worthy causes.

Share Our Strength is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to end childhood hunger by 2015. They encourage Americans to host bake sales within their communities to support the No Kid Hungry Campaign. In New York City, that means the 3rd Annual NYC Food Blogger Bake Sale.

For the last two years,  Ken and Lillian have gathered well-known food bloggers, baking enthusiasts, cookie designers and bakeries from the NYC area to raise money to support the campaign, which took place last weekend at one of my very favorite New York destinations – the Brooklyn Flea.

The weather was gorgeous and the Flea was packed – I had a lovely morning walking around and discovering some fabulous new vendors before making my way over to the bake sale tent – which was overflowing with cookies, cupcakes, macaroons and more.

I wasted no time in gathering up my goodies:

For my chocolate-loving boys there were “big brownies”, chocolate chip cookies with sea salt (yes, I bought 2 packages) and homemade oreos,

Hot chocolate on a stick (!!) and chocolate-dipped macaroons.

And for me?

Brown sugar hand pies and salted brown butter krispy treats (by Smitten Kitchen – who, sadly, was not there for me to grovel in front of),

Earl Grey macarons and petite citrus-poppy bundt cakes (are you dying from the pretty? and the cuteness?).

I was thrilled to contribute to such an amazing cause, and plan to participate myself next year (any suggestions on what I should bake?).

It is not too late to donate or pledge – I encourage you to take a look at the web sites listed below, to learn more about how you can help.

Hopefully I’ll see you there next year!

Can anyone bring me some of the chocolate sea salt thingies, preferably with a pail of coffee? Right now? Before I even get out of bed?

What yummy treats – wish I had been there. Perhaps my next trip to NYC!

And you are such a supportive friend too…

What a great idea. I’m so glad the weather was mild. I’ve heard of these as a blogger in Canada participated in one. The food looks so amazing and has been beautifully presented. That macaron is just perfect! xx

Thanks! It was such a treat to be involved with – hope to actually be baking there next year! 🙂

What an awesome event for a great cause! I was thisclose to going to the Flea on Saturday; I wish I had! Your choices were perfect – anything with sea salt is a win for me, and Macaron Parlour makes my favorite macarons (the owners just got married last weekend!)

As for what to bake next year, that is tough! I’d say something with a slight savoryness to it – a citrusy olive oil loaf, or brown butter-rhubarb bars?

Oh I would have loved to meet you! Yes, Macaron Parlour is a fave of mine too……..It’s funny, I love savory sweets yet am always afraid that they’ll be the “orphans” of the bake sale – everyone wants chocolate!! I like that rhubarb bar idea though….. 🙂

Awesome pictures, Sheri! You made out like a bandit on goods! I just made a dentist appointment for this week. Post-bakesale check up. But it was SO worth it! Hope to see you at more foodie events soon!

Thanks Jenn! I know, I couldn’t stop buying! A dentist appointment sounds perfectly appropriate! And yes, hope to see you too! 🙂
