Remember my “local” shout-out of a few months back?
I’ve got another one for you. It’s Janet Sikirica Millinery & Fiber Arts. I really don’t want to share Janet with the world, but she’s too talented (and lovely) for me not to.
Janet is a local mom (who formerly worked as a director in the field of legal recruiting) who has recently started to fulfill her very creative side. She calls herself “milliner”, “felter” and “knitter”. But she is really a gifted and sophisticated artist whose media happens to be wool, mohair and silk.
I was browsing a local holiday boutique in December when I stopped dead in my tracks. I was first taken with the stunning, fabulously styled woman selling her wares (Janet has that kind of style that looks effortless and easy, yet you could never duplicate it. Hate that.). But I soon noticed her gorgeous collection of scarves, hats and bags.
I didn’t know what to grab first. What struck me immediately was that her designs were like nothing I’ve ever seen. It’s so hard to differentiate yourself from “the pack”, so I really appreciate finding great accessories that I haven’t seen on ten other women.
Here are some of Janet’s creations:
Wool and wool/mohair felted bags and vessels – the bags have a great button detail and the vessels will hold anything (except water) with great style.
Lofty, gorgeous wool scarves, many felted onto silk. One more beautiful than the next.
Funky, fabulous hats – happy and colorful to take you through our grim, gray winters.
This is just a sampling of Janet’s work. She can also do custom orders.
And guess what? Through February, mention “donuts, dresses and dirt” and receive 15% off your purchase.
How’s that for a happy Friday?
