favor- “ette” friday: anarchy in a jar

Hide your spoons.

It’s winter time and I find myself looking for more little indulgences than at other times of the year. Nothing big and fancy, just some small treats to take me out of the long, dreary and gray days that seem to drag on forever. It could be a spa manicure vs. my “regular”.  Or splurging on some fancy scented candles to warm up the kitchen.

Or these jams. I discovered them over the summer at Smorgasburg and love them.  The name alone– “Anarchy in a Jar” – makes me smile. And the packaging is adorable (yes, I’m a sucker for a pretty package). But of course, it’s all about taste, and they more than deliver. The quality of fruit and inventive combinations of flavors really set these little jams apart.

The menu rotates, and is typically seasonal. The 3-pack I just received included “Easy Like Sunday Morning” (wild blueberries and maple syrup), Strawberry Balsamic (not too sweet; would be perfect on a cheese plate) and my very favorite, smoked salt and grapefruit (with bits of zest and ruby red grapefruit juice).  They elevate even a lowly English muffin  just enough to make a blah winter morning feel special.  Assuming you can wait for it to toast up without digging right into the jar……..

These would make a great hostess gift to bring to a brunch with some freshly baked muffins. Bu I wouldn’t know as they never stay unopened long enough in my house.

Happy Friday!
