pretty funny vintage

I wanted to name this post “Brooklyn Schmooklyn”.

But, really?

I know that I’ve gone on and on (and on) about how much I love Brooklyn, and have shared many of my favorite places with you (and there’s more to come!). But I started to feel badly about neglecting the place I’ve called home for almost 25 years – that is, Westchester County.

I’ve been thinking lately that I should really make more of an effort to seek out the fabulous and unusual right in my own backyard, and give a local “shout out” now and then.

And I knew just the place I wanted to start with – Pretty Funny Vintage.

Owner Stephanie Leggio, along with her two employees (and invaluable friends) Mary and Sandy, has been gracing our area with her uncanny sense of style, warmth and humor for many years. She’s operated out of a few locations over the years and is currently back in her original spot, a historic Victorian in the town right next door to mine.

I’ve been a huge fan of Stephanie’s for a long time. Some of the most cherished pieces in my home – a braided rug that was in Conor’s room for many years, a vintage vet cabinet that finally found a home in my powder room after sitting in storage for almost a decade – have come from Stephanie’s shop. When I would think of Stephanie’s shop I immediately thought “vintage”. And as I had little room (or need) for more, I had stopped visiting. But I recently had the opportunity to reconnect with both Stephanie AND Mary, so I decided to stop back in.

And I was SO glad that I did!

From the moment you approach the front porch you are greeted with a warm and whimsical display (one of Stephanie’s many talents is her seemingly effortless ability to put together vignettes that are the opposite of contrived).

It gets even better once you’re inside. If you are in need of an antidote to the sterility of most mall stores, this is the place to go. The vibe is warm, cozy and friendly. Is there lots of vintage? Yep.

books

jewelry

clothing

furnishings and home accessories

But there’s so much more………….

cute seasonal items

unusual home goods

great kitchenware

There are price points to fit every budget and if you’re looking for an unusual gift (for yourself or someone else), I defy you to walk out of this store empty handed.

Coffee, cookies and music on the weekends complete an atmosphere that’s “like a club that everyone belongs to”.

You can see more photos from my recent visit here, and go to the web site to learn more.

Did I mention that Stephanie’s also hilarious and has a card selection to match?

I hope you can check out this special store soon…..

I’m inspired to find more “local” finds to share with you!
